Proud is a venue at the Stables Market on Chalk Farm road (NW1), hosts of Rock the Boat, the club night run by Mencap, targeted at people with learning disabilities. We learned about this through the Stay Up Late Campaign, which is lobbying for change to the practices that get in the way of people with learning disabilities staying out and partying. With all this in mind, and given his background in band management, Barrie's idea is to start laying on music and social events, open to everyone but accessible to people with disabilities (starting with our gang at Headway of course). We met with Victoria from Proud and Kate and Hazel from Mencap this evening and picked their brains. Will update as plans develop.
